Vulcan’s core businesses are in the supply, installation and maintenance of rubber products. We have chosen to be involved with rubber recycling in order to reduce the environmental impact of waste rubber within our industry.

There is a problem with waste rubber, especially from used tyres but also in the manufacture of rubber goods. Since July 2006, an EU landfill directive has banned whole and shredded tyres from landfill sites.

Therefore, rubber recycling...

• Is an excellent way to dispose of unwanted rubber products.
• Conserves non-renewable petroleum products, which are used to produce synthetic rubbers.

The technology of rubber recycling is still an emerging area. Most rubber recycling operations fall within the following areas:

1. Mechanical reduction by shredding and granulation.
2. Thermal recovery as an additive fuel in cement kilns.
3. Whole disposal in land engineering solutions.
4. De-vulcanisation by chemical processes.

Vulcan’s environmental agenda is simple:
