A Word About Tyres

Whilst Vulcan is not currently a tyre recycler, it is worth acknowledging the advancing technologies around the world.

Vulcan - A Word About Tyres Vulcan - A Word About Tyres

  • There are around 1 billion tyres produced each year across the globe.

  • Around 100,000 tyres are changed every day in the UK, this equates to around 500,000 tonnes per year that have to be reused or disposed of.

  • The commercial crumbing of tyres is still a relatively new industry.

  • Tyres are designed to be indestructible and are made to stringent quality standards. They contain high tensile steel belts and various bead wires which are the main contributors to breakdowns and wear in recycling machinery.

  • Limited machinery exists which can tolerate such 'constant' abuse, even when coupled with massive amounts of mechanical power.

  • Very few tyre recycling plants have a successful track record for reliability, economy, safety and dependable textile separation.

  • True 'cradle to the grave' technology exists (at huge investment) which is being driven by growing worldwide interest and rising gate prices.
